Newborn sessions are ideally held within the first 5 to 14 days after birth, when babies are often sleepier and more settled. However, slightly older babies can still be photographed beautifully, and newborn sessions can take place up to around six weeks old.
When should I book my newborn photography session?
You can book your newborn session any time after your 12 week scan. A limited number of sessions are taken each month to allow flexibility if your baby arrives earlier or later than expected.
If you feel you may be booking a little later, please get in touch and I will always do my best to accommodate you.
Is newborn photography safe?
Yes. Your baby’s comfort and safety are always the priority. All poses are gentle and baby-led, with no forced positioning. Sessions are unhurried, allowing time to follow your baby’s natural rhythm throughout.
What if my baby won’t sleep?
That’s absolutely fine. Awake moments can be just as special, and newborn sessions are designed to allow plenty of time for settling, feeding and cuddles.
If your baby is awake, we can capture beautiful wide-eyed images. Wrapping often helps babies feel cosy and relaxed, and many drift off to sleep once they feel settled. Sessions are never rushed and can last several hours if needed.
What if my baby keeps crying?
This is very rare. With years of experience photographing newborns, sessions are guided gently and patiently. If a baby becomes unsettled, it is usually a case of working through what they need, whether that is feeding, changing or simply being comforted. There is always time to pause and settle your baby before continuing.
Can parents, siblings or pets be included?
Parents and siblings are very welcome to be included, but this is completely optional and sessions can be tailored to suit your family. Family and sibling photographs are included as part of the Silver and Gold newborn collections.
If you have a dog who is an important part of your family, please ask about including them for a few photographs during your session.
What should we wear for our newborn session?
Simple, neutral clothing works best for newborn photos. You will receive guidance before your session to help you prepare and choose outfits that photograph beautifully.
What do we need to bring with us?
You only need to bring the essentials for your baby, including nappies and wipes. If you are bottle feeding, please bring several bottles, as babies can feed more frequently during sessions.
If your baby uses a dummy, please bring this along. You are also welcome to bring any special teddies or heirloom items you would like included in a few photographs.
Do you provide props and accessories?
Yes. A wide selection of carefully chosen props, wraps, fabrics and accessories are provided for your newborn session.
You do not need to bring outfits for your baby unless you would like them photographed in something specific. Styling is kept simple and timeless, with your baby’s comfort always the priority.
